Huimin Zhang
The artist profile
Huimin Zhang is an artist specializing in 22K gold. She combines various techniques, including filigree, engraving, and European gold and silver thread embroidery, to develop her unique craftsmanship. To complement her handmade 0.08mm gold wire, she even invented a super-low temperature 22K gold solder. She believes that combining multiple crafts is a way to preserve traditional techniques. Her ” Mammary gland ” series was inspired by her close friend battling breast cancer. She wants to encourage her friend even if a short life should bloom like summer flowers. Using gold and her friend’s hair, she creates unique and beautiful breast flowers, conveying that her friend is irreplaceable and brilliantly beautiful.

Why did they become an artist?
My passion for decade – long collection of over a thousand ancient Chinese metal jewelry pieces sparked a and to be a gold artist. At the beginning the authenticity was key, and I learned to identify genuine items by craftsmanship, like the gold – wire – making method. As my collection grew, I delved into restoration and formal metalworking study. Replicating pieces connected me to ancient craftsmen. I realized their unique tool use and material views. Creation isn’t just rational; intangible elements in work touch the viewer’s soul.
