The Artist’s profile
Oles Tsura was born in 1993 in Ivano-Frankivsk, a Carpathian city in western Ukraine. From an early age,
he discovered his passion for drawing, exploring new ideas and creative expression — a drive that
continues to shape both his personal and professional journey, always in dialogue between art and
design.
His education at various Ukrainian art schools allowed him to build a solid foundation in fine, applied,
and decorative arts. Following a practice-oriented training in metalwork at the Kosiv Institute of Applied
and Decorative Arts, he continued his path at the Lviv Academy of Arts, where he specialized in jewelry
design and earned his first Bachelor of Arts degree.
Fascinated by precious metals, gemstones, and minerals, he pursued further studies in Europe. At the
Trier University of Applied Sciences, Campus Idar-Oberstein, he completed a second Bachelor of Fine
Arts with a focus on Gemstone and Jewellery Design. There, he deepened his creative and technical
skills, refined his sensitivity to material aesthetics, and explored new conceptual approaches.
After graduation, he worked for three years as a gemstone cutter at a local company in Idar-Oberstein.
During this time, he mastered the faceted cut technique and gained extensive hands-on experience in
gemstone processing — with particular emphasis on precision, material knowledge, and artistic
expression.
Oles Tsura is currently enrolled in the Master’s program in Design at HAWK Hildesheim, where he
continues to expand his creative competencies, experiment with new methods, and sharpen his
individual voice at the intersection of contemporary art and design. His current work builds on previous
academic experiences, especially his in-depth engagement with stone carving and gemstone design.

Environmental Concerns
Throughout my artistic journey, I’ve placed great importance on working with natural and
sustainable materials. I primarily use stone, wood, and precious metals—materials that are not only
environmentally friendly but also rich in texture and history. By combining them in thoughtful ways
and shaping them to invite touch and interaction, I aim to foster a deeper connection between
people and the natural world.
