The Artist’s profile
Peter Machata is a Slovak jewellery artist known for his sculptural approach to contemporary jewellery. Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava under Jozef Jankovič, he transitioned from traditional sculpture to jewellery, treating each piece as a miniature sculpture. His work combines traditional craftsmanship with modern technology, using CNC milling and digital scanning to challenge conventional jewellery design. Emphasising relief and form, Machata explores themes of identity, spirituality, and personal narratives, often incorporating religious iconography. Through his innovative practice, he redefines the relationship between jewellery, art, and personal expression.

The triggers to become an artist
It was easy to start making art, as education in an art field brings visible progress and excitement. But it’s much more difficult to continue. I stay with art because of that moment when something new is created under my hands—a small miracle that brings me happiness. That moment of creation is essential, and I don’t care about anything before or after. It is what drives me to keep creating.

Environmental Concern
The goldsmith’s craft is rooted in a deep respect for materials and their recycling. The artist combines traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge technologies, often incorporating design waste into their jewelry. Scraps that are too small for further use in production are given new life and integrated into their pieces, creating unique and sustainable designs.
